Home gym
I will be putting up some photos and description of my home gym, and equipment I use for my simple but effective workouts.
Update Oct 1, 2007: Here are some photos from my home gym, or more accurately my garage workout space. This was the set up I had back when I lived in Hays, KS.

Heavy bag and tower

Weights, homemade medicine ball, etc

Homemade kettlebell

Forearm workout tool
When we moved to Grinnell, IA the house we bought doesn’t have a garage, so I have to workout in the laundry room where the heavy bag is, outside where the power tower is, and in the tv room where the dumbbells and barbell weights are. Most of my workouts consist of bodyweight exercises, hindu squats, pushups, hindu pushups, pull ups, lots of various sit ups and crunches, I also have been doing some dumbell work using a stability ball instead of a bench. I also do about 30 min of Muay Thai on the heavy bag a few times a week.
I’ll work on getting some new photos and some examples of my daily workouts.

I would be interested in seeing your pictures as soon as you get them up. I’m in the process of building my own gym in my garage. -Lyle
Would you please show me how to make a 2-3″ thick barbell?
The barbell handle that is in the photo is covered in the same black insulating foam that is used on hot water pipes for water heaters and also on AC systems. You can find it at any hardware store. For dumbbells I’ve used larger diameter pipes, either metal or PVC, and slid them over the regular handles. I suppose one could also use a longer one for a barbell too.
Thank you!
How did you make the kettlebell?
Please feel free to email me.
Thanks!
The kettlebell handle is something I picked up at a farm supply store, it is used for attaching trailers to tractors. The holes are the right size for a cut down dumbbell handle. The 2 10lb plates fit inside and a couple 2.5lb plates make the thing weight about 27lbs.
